A Northland amputee is seeing success with a prosthetic equipped with cutting edge technology.

Terry Thewis of Two Harbors received the X3 microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knee following a work accident five years ago.

The X3 is the first completely waterproof electronic leg and can be programmed for five activity modes including walking, biking and golfing.

“It helps me function as close as to what I functioned before I lost my leg,” said Thewis. “My daily life whether it’s at home, you know riding an ATV or working around the yard, garden work.”

The X3 used to only be available to military personnel.

Thewis is the first person in the Northland to receive one.
