It’s the first of its kind in Bayfield, a cooperative, locally owned by its employees.
Big Water Coffee Roasters formed in 2007, it became a worker owner cooperative in March.
“It is a new thing and we’re excited to be bringing that thing here and already there has been talk of other cooperative ventures starting, so it’s exciting,” said Owner/Director of Wholesale at Big Water Coffee Roasters Cooperative Jason Reichel.
The cooperative roasts 1,000-pounds of coffee every week in the off-season that number doubles during peak operation.
The coffee is imported from around the world and made fresh to order at the coffee shop.
