Park Point: Rip Current Warning Through Wednesday Morning

Sorry, this video is no longer available

If you plan on hitting the beaches on Park Point Wednesday morning, you might want to think again because high rip currents are a risk until 10 a.m., according to fire officials.

“They get caught up in the rip tide and they may not know what’s happening.  So, they’re trying to swim toward the shore and what happens is they panic and they end up exhausting themselves and drown,” said Duluth’s assistant fire chief, Chris Martinson.

Nearly 50 people die from rip currents every year, according to Martinson.
