The Superior Fire Department will retain the firefighters who were in danger of being laid off because of a lack of funding.

3 of Superiors Bravest will remain employed for at least 2 more years thanks to a grant from F.E.M.A.

The grant is officially titled a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant and is worth $426,000 over the next 2 years.

All 3 firefighters who were in danger of lay offs were hired in March of 2015 and work at the East Superior Firehouse.

Superior Fire Chief Steve Panger said it costs about $75,000 a year to equip, train and pay each firefighter.

Panger added that all 3 firefighters who are being retained with grant money are very good at what they do and valued members of the department.
