Hundreds of people came out to see the $22.5 million dollar surgical and procedural care expansion at 1012 East Second Street.

The 36,000 thousand square foot facility is equipped with 42 private patient rooms along with universal hybrid and special procedure rooms.

The upgrades make it a one stop shop, allows for more collaboration and reduces risks that can occur when a patient is being transported.

“The ability to deliver quality care in one place and to bring all of the resources to bear in that one area not only improves outcome but improves the ability for patients overall survival and well–being,” St. Luke’s chief of trauma surgery Dr. Mark Monte said.

While fleshing out a vision for the surgical and procedural care expansion, St. Luke’s medical professionals toured various clinics across the Midwest to get ideas, perspective and trouble shoot.

“We’re very confident that we’re building a space that will give us a lot of versatility for a decade to come,” St. Luke’s director of surgical services Toni Schultz said.

The vision for this state of the art expansion happened a decade ago.

St. Luke’s will see their first patients in the new facility on Monday.
