The 2015 school year will mark the 5th year for Second Harvest Northern Lake Food Bank’s Backpack Program.
The program provides needy students, with food so they don’t go hungry over the weekend.
Second Harvest spends around $4,000 a week on the food, providing for around 900 children at 16 schools in the Northland.
Food donations are not used for the program because of eligibility requirements.
Second Harvest has to purchase the food to ensure that it is easily opened and easily prepared.
