Voters to Decide If City Councilor's Pay Will Be Determined in New Way

At Friday’s special meeting, the Duluth City Council passed a resolution proposing a change to the process by which city officials’ pay is determined.

Right now, it is up to the city councilors to propose changing their own fees.

The resolution passed Friday puts that decision in the hands of the Charter Commission.

“At least have the fee and the pay of the councilors looked at in an objective manner, and not have people be afraid to vote for it because, perhaps, they would have political consequences,” said Duluth City Councilor Sharla Gardner.

The question will now appear on the November ballot, putting this decision in the hands of the voters.
