If you’re looking for an affordable getaway to escape for a bit in the Northland, we have a suggestion.
In this week’s Knowing Your Neighbors, we make a stop at Bearaboo Coffee Escape in Cloquet.
The coffee shop is a staple in Cloquet.
It opened 10-years ago under different ownership before moving to its current location.
Owner Karen Williams said the business is known for the consistency of its drinks.
“You can come thru the drive–thru and 90–percent of the time my baristas will know the drink that the customer wants to order,” explained Williams.
Owning a business wasn’t something Williams always envisioned.
“It started to be one thing. I teach full-time during the school year and thought well I’m getting closer to retirement, maybe I wanted to transition to something else,” said Williams.
While she and her husband own the shop, she credits great workers to making the place run smoothly.
“It’s a wonderful place to come. My baristas are happy. The people who walk in the doors are happy. There are great people out here. It’s a meeting place for many in the community,” said Williams.
Over the years the coffee shop’s menu has grown.
The most popular items include a chicken salad sandwich and veggie panini.
“Made to order sandwiches for our lunch, so that’s become really popular as well,” said Williams.
The coffee shop is also eco-conscious.
In the last three years they have donated 9-tons of coffee ground to a local organic gardener.
