Monday night, a Superior city councilor invited citizens to ask questions and learn about his proposal for a city trash collection fee.
Last week, the council voted down a proposal to add a garbage fee of $9.75.
Councilor Graham Garfield’s plan includes a fee starting at $7.75, raising it to $8.75 one year later, and again to $9.75 the year after that.
“I think it’s a good government practice to roll out a new fee in a few increments. Folks haven’t been used to paying a fee yet, and I think that starting at $7.75 is high enough that by the time it’s up to $9.75 they’ll have been used to paying this monthly fee, and I don’t think it will be as big of a deal,” explained Garfield.
His plan includes the option for a $6.75 fee for a smaller capacity garbage bin.
