There’s a new name for a growing section of Superior Street that’s been known for a long time as ‘Old Downtown.’
The area is now officially being called the ‘Historic Arts and Theatre District’ — or HART.
Councilor Sharla Gardner was behind the resolution for change after downtown businesses came forward wanting to better identify with the arts and entertainment developing downtown.
“We’re seeing a lot of activity with the NorShor Theatre renovation coming on board, this is a prime time to really be able to kick off a new look — some new energy — for that part of the downtown,” said Kristi Stokes.
All councilors but Howie Hanson approved the change, which includes $10,000 dollars for new signage on the parking ramp next to the casino.
Light post banners are also in the works.
