Superior is planning to replace 200 trees along Tower Avenue, removed to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer beetle.

Mayor Bruce Hagen said the trees will be replaced through private donations of $300.00.

Superior Parks Department Director, Mary Morgan said the removed trees will be replaced by mature trees that will be more resistant to disease.

Hagen said the Tower Avenue corridor will be a test campaign for the rest of Superior, where around 3,000 trees were removed.

Morgan said Superior will replace the removed trees with five to seven diverse tree species, inclunding Honeylocust, Kentucky Coffeetree, and Ivory Silk Japanese Tree Lilac.

Superior will be taking donations until the end of December.

The City will begin planting the trees next April.

Anyone who would like to make a donation for a tree can contact the City of Superior Parks Department by phone at (715) 395-7270.
