The city of Superior is recognizing the work done to renovate its largest public park.
The Chamber of Commerce cut a ribbon dedicating the completion of half a million dollars in renovations to the park.
“As a child I remember very fondly coming out here when we had our picnics. It was either here or at Patterson Park. And coming from a large family – we had a lot of people at the picnics!” said Superior Mayor Bruce Hagen, during his remarks at the ceremony.
Most of the work was done on pathways, roadways, lighting, and railings throughout the park, which sits on the shore of Lake Superior.
Those involved with the renovations say the park is looking better than ever.
“We have had summers here where one dozen brides have said ‘I do’ on this property,” said Mary Morgan, Director of Parks and Recreation. “80-100 reservations, the city’s largest park – it’s just a privilege to manage it and oversee it.”
The city said $93,280 of the funds needed came from a grant with Wisconsin Coastal Management Program.
