Tom Grier started putting up Halloween decorations in his yard on Grand View Avenue in the 1980s.

At first, the decorations were simple.

But with the help of volunteers, including builders and actors, it eventually became a spooky attraction for children and families on Halloween night.

After more than three decades, the gates of the haunted yard are finally closing.

“It’s just so difficult finding actors and helpers, and it’s outgrown our budget,” said Grier.

Volunteers say they are sad to see the tradition end, but are happy that they were able to be a part of the fun

Grier intends to sell the decorations he and his friends have created over the years, or have someone in the neighborhood take over.
