Dancers and drummers from the Fond du Lac Reservation kicked off a dedication of the new Lake Superior Ojibwe Gallery Monday.

The celebration was held at The Depot.

The new gallery is a project of the St. Louis County Historical Society depicting the Ojibwe people from the 1800s.

Dancers said their performance was a way to show Duluth that Ojibwe people are both humble and artistic.

“We’re a very close group of people here on the Fond du Lac Reservation and we’ll embrace everybody that comes in as part of our culture. That’s what we do, and we’re here to showcase that here and we’ll welcome everybody with open arms,” said Herb Fineday, a grass dancer with the band.

The gallery is part of the historical society’s new focus on celebrating the Ojibwe way of life.
