Great Outdoors: Disc Golf
Sorry, this video is no longer available
It’s a fairly cheap sport that has grown in popularity within the last decade: disc golf.
In this week’s Great Outdoors, we take you to Highbridge Hills Sports Complex in Wisconsin.
Disc golf is a sport of precision.
‘We hosted worlds here in 2007, we are the only private enterprise that has ever done that in 40–years,” said Highbridge Hills owner John Jokinen.
“People consider us kind of out in the sticks, but you can’t move Highbridge and we can’t move the beautiful Penokee Mountains so we created what we felt was a good way for people to enjoy nature through disc golf,” said Jokinen.
The complex opened to the public in 2004.
It offers 10, 18-hole courses for play.
Jokinen designed the courses with the idea of being a good steward of the land.
“The main thing about our property for disc golf is that it’s all created certified organic and we manage it that way,” explained Jokinen.
There is one thing that makes every course unique at the complex.
“The terrain. We built and carved everything here into the terrain. Each course is different, the length is different, the playability is different but they are all fair playable courses to left and right handers,” said Jokinen.
If you can’t get enough games of disc golf, also called Frolf, played during the day there is also a lit 18-hole course.
Whether you’re a beginner or experienced there is a course for every player.
