Nine candidates for City Council and Duluth Mayor Don Ness took part in the forum.

Questions were answers, and stories were shared by those who struggled with poverty.

The groups are pushing to build better relationships and stronger communication between elected officials and those experiencing poverty.

“With more than one half of our community in poverty this is not just a poverty agenda of the voices of a few rising but a community that could benefit many of whom are struggling in our community,” said Sharon Witherspoon with Churches United in Ministry (CHUM).

Others took the podium to discuss their personal stories and to push for more action by elected officials.
