Opposition to Ranked Choice Voting

Former Councilors Hartman and Stauber

Earlier this week we heard from two politicians in favor or Ranked Choice Voting, the message Friday was very different.

Jim Stauber and Dan Hartman expressed their concerns about Ranked Choice Voting in the city’s municipal elections.

They are concerned about the integrity of the council and said the voting method was not developed  for at-large races and a multitude of candidates.

“When you have a lot of candidates on a single ballot like the first time I ran, it was 13 to expect the voters to be able to rank 13 candidates and understand what all 13 are representing just doesn’t work,” said former Duluth Councilor Jim Stauber.

The men said they are not speaking on behalf of any organization but rather as past councilors from differing political parties.

A question pertaining to Ranked Choice Voting will be on the Tuesday, November 2nd ballot.
