Event Honors 40th Anniversary of the Fitzgerald Tragedy

The 28th Annual Gales of November commemorates the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald 40 years ago. 

The event kicked off Friday at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. 

The annual conference featured speakers, video showings, and tours.

On Saturday, the event will remember those lost in the wreck in the Edmund Fitzgerald. 

“History is who we are and our marine time history is so rich we must preserve it, we must respect it, because Duluth wouldn’t exist without it,” said Tammy Sundbom Otterson, the Executive Director of the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association.

The first day of the Gales of November weekend wrapped up with an Opening Gala. 

If you wish to attend Saturday’s reception, the event will start at 9 a.m. in the Lake Superior Ballroom.
