Armory Celebrates First, Plans for Second Century

Plans in Place to Restore Armory

The Duluth Armory opened in 1915 and a 100th birthday party was held Saturday.

Nelson French, Vice President of the Armory Arts and Music Center Board, said the party was about celebrating the first 100 years, and planning for the next 100.

The board has a redevelopment contract for the armory building in place with the Boisclair Corporation, according to French.

French described the company as a reputable and experienced company that has done many restoration and development projects and shares the boards vision for the armory.

The vision includes retail, office, and residential space, restoration of the armory stage and even the possiblity of restaurant space.

French said the agreement has not been finalized because Boisclair is still completing their due diligence.

However, if the deal is finalized the armory could be reopened before the end of 2017.
