Family Donates House to Habitat for Humanity
A Family Turned a Tragedy in to Something Good
This isn’t the first home the Jarvi family has lost – in 2000 a fire ripped through their home. They picked up the pieces and moved on then they are this time as well with the help of habitat for humanity.
June of 2014… They awoke up to their dad telling them to get out because he thought it was on fire. The white clouds weren’t smoke, instead steam. The misty cloud encompassed their home.
Due to heavy rain the sewer system had become compromised and it charged the steam system blowing a hole in the basement of the house and pressure cooked our house for about 15–hours. The steam was considered category three water, boiled sewage.
All of their belongings were thrown away.
Now gutted to the studs, this little blue home will soon be demolished.
“About this time next year we will be having a dedication of a brand new home with a family. taking back over this property and having this story continue in a good way.”
The Jarvi family has donated it to a worthy cause. Giving the house to Habitat for Humanity seemed like the perfect fit. A new house will be built next spring.
If you know a family in need – habitat’s spokesperson says there will be two homes built in Hibbing next spring and so far, only one family has been selected.
