Will Mayor-Elect Larson Keep Chief Administrative Officer?
Larson Also Tasked With Filling Fire Chief, CFO, Possibly Police Chief
With less than a month before Mayor-Elect Emily Larson takes over for Mayor Don Ness, the city of Duluth’s longtime Chief Administrative Officer still doesn’t know if he’ll have a job come January.
David Montgomery told FOX 21 Tuesday that Larson has yet to tell him if he’s part of her upcoming administration.
Montgomery has been the mayor’s right-hand man and the manager of all city department – except the City Attorney’s Office – since 2009.
“If she wants me to come back and wants to announce that, I am thrilled because there’s lots to do. If she doesn’t and wants to move in a different direction, I respect that,” Montgomery said.
Meanwhile, Larson will also need to decide who should fill the vacant fire chief position that has longtime firefighter Erik Simonson running the department as the interim chief.
And if Duluth police Chief Gordon Ramsay is offered the job as the chief of police in Wichita, Kansas, Larson will be tasked with filling that vital position.
Meanwhile the city still hasn’t filled the position of Chief Financial Officer.
Larson could not be reached for comment Tuesday night, as she is on vacation in Mexico.
