Local Psychiatrist Debunks Holiday Myth

Holidays do not see a spike suicide like many believe.

There is a large misconception during the holidays that suicide rates spike.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is saying that it is simply not true, that suicides see a spike during holidays.

Dr. David Baldes said that actually spring and fall see spikes in suicide rates and the holidays provide a solace for many.

“There are plenty of protective factors preventing suicides during the holiday season like being around family, being around people that you love,” said Dr. Baldes.

Baldes noted that although these are protective factors to many they can be negative for others.

And if you are having a hard time you are urged to reach out to community resources that can provide help.
