Peregrine Falcon Recovery Celebrated at State Parks

Bird Was Put on the Endangered List Decades Ago

The use of pesticides in the 1950s and 60s, containing a chemical called DDT, eliminated many peregrine falcon populations across the nation. But there’s a comeback happening.

The falcon was put on the endangered list, but with recovery efforts of passionate falconers, the population of the birds grew to a point where they were taken off of the list.

The Midwest Peregrine Society brought a pair of birds to Tettegucche and Gooseberry state parks in celebration, and to teach community members about the birds.
