The Border Battle: Decades Long
The year was 1961 when John F. Kennedy took office, gas was 27 cents at the pump and a border battle began between the Green Bay Packers lead by Vincent Lombardi, and The Minnesota Vikings led by Norm Van Brocklin.
Packers and Vikings fans across the Northland made sure to pull up a stool at their favorite area bars Sunday.
The Minnesota Vikings entered into the league as an expansion team in the 61 season.
Their neighbors to the east the Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919 by Curly Lambeau.
This rivalry was dowsed with bitterness in ’09 season.
When legendary Packer quarterback Brett Favre joined the Vikings roster.
Sunday was the 110th meeting of these two franchises.
“I have some reservations on the way we’ve played this year they keep getting my hopes up and dashing them again,” said Steve Schmidt from Minneapolis.
The Vikings have won 49 and Green Bay with 59 with two tie games.
