Emily Larson Becomes First Female Mayor of Duluth
Larson Is The 29th Mayor To Hold Position
History was made in Duluth Monday night as Emily Larson was sworn in as the city’s first female mayor – ever.
The historic moment was made official at her inauguration at the DECC, which was open to the public.
And while tears were flowing, Larson seemed to take former Mayor Don Ness’ take on things with a little humor at the beginning of her speech.
“OK so here we go. This is my first official address. Please keep your expectations very low and measured. We have four years to do this together so,” Larson joked with the audience.
But on a serious note, Larson touched on the many power and courageous women before her in leadership roles that helped pave the way for her 72 percent of the votes to make her the next mayor of Duluth.
She also touched on a big business boom Duluth is having, while also stressing her four years will not be riding a wave but instead by pushing for a momentous ride to even better places for the city.
And she said that movement will come from everyone in every neighborhood because it’s about “we” the people, not just herself.
Mayor Don Ness was also in attendance and poked a little fun with Larson by saying he had a complaint about potholes, which the audience burst out in laughter.
