Courage Kenny Helps People With Disabilities Hit the Slopes

New Sunday Program In Place for the 2nd Year

The Courage Kenny adaptive ski program has been helping people with cognitive and physical disabilities hit the slopes for around 30 years.

For the second year, Courage Kenny added a Sunday program, while still keeping their Tuesday and Thursday program.

“We’re trying to get more and more participants involved and guests involved,” said Jayne Petrich, the program coordinator.

7 lessons were held at Spirit Mountain

“It runs with a whole ram of things, it could be a stand up ski lesson, a snowboard lesson, it could be a bi ski lesson, it could be a mono ski lesson,” said Petrich.

January 24th was the 2nd week of the program out of 4, but the first week was canceled because of the cold weather.

Petrich said that getting active outside adds to a better life for everyone.

“So many people talk about how freeing it is for them that they get to get out of their wheel chairs and in to an adaptive ski and have fun and just go,” said Petrich.

The goal of the Sunday program is to help people try skiing out, while the Tuesday and Thursday program teaches people how to ski over 8 weeks.
