Vet’s Check Dogs Running in the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon
The Dogs Are Preparing to Run Almost 400 Miles
A health check for the dogs was held in Beaver Bay. Veterinarians did an extensive check up on the pups to make sure they are in tip top shape to run the almost 400 mile long race starting in two harbors.
“They are athletes much like the human athletes they need to do the training and a dog will not run or pull if they’re not feeling good or not happy,” said Dr. Jackie Piepkorn, the trail veterinarian of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon.
The dogs will be given breaks, food, and water throughout the race so that they can recharge.
