Governor Walker Sits Down with Fox 21

Walker Discusses Jobs, Hunting Gear and More

Governor Scott Walker discussed everything from working with those across the political aisle to working with individual city officials and with those across state lines in an interview with FOX 21 in Barron.

Since his state of the state address, Governor Walker has been on a tour of the state meeting one on one with groups of Wisconsin residents and local media. “Some of the things are affirming what we already started doing, but a lot of it is just new ideas, new ways of tweaking the system,” said Walker.

While many jobs have left cities like Superior with the loss of two big box stores like Target and K-mart, Walker believes Superior and other cities like it need to diversify their economy and bring in more manufacturing jobs.

“If Superior or somewhere around there in Douglas County we’ve wiped out almost all the taxable liability so a tremendous incentive for manufacturers to both grow as well as to come to a state like Wisconsin in the first place,” said Walker.

While unemployment remains low, the key for Walker is keeping those skilled workers. “It’s a great problem to have but how do we have enough skilled people to fill those positions,” said Walker.

The new law allowing hunters to wear pink in addition to the orange was also in Walker’s sights.

“It’s not just about the appeal but from sparely a safety standpoint it’s as effective if not more so than blaze orange in terms of being seen,” said Walker.

Walker has done about ten of his listening tour stops.
