Two Deputies Shot and Killed in Maryland
Two Harford County Sheriff’s deputies are dead following a shooting at a Maryland shopping center on Wednesday.
The gunman opened fire on an officer inside of a crowded Panera Bread restaurant during lunch time Wednesday.
The suspect fled the scene. Another officer located the man and shots were exchanged, killing the suspect.
Both officers were wounded, and later died of their injuries.
A Maryland sheriff has identified the gunman as 67-year-old David Evans.
Police say Evans had warrants out for his arrest in Harford County and Florida, where he was accused of assaulting a police officer and fleeing and eluding.
One of the slain officers was described as a 30-year veteran of the department, while the other had been with the department for 16 years.
The sheriff said he met with both of their families but was withholding their names because more relatives needed to be notified.
