Fire Breaks Out at Superior BNSF Taconite Loading Facility

Firefighters battled a blaze that broke out Wednesday at Superior’s BNSF Taconite Loading Facility. 

The Superior Fire Department responded to the fire around 5 Wednesday morning at the facility, located at 40th Avenue East and Itasca.  

When crews arrived, flames and smoke were coming from a 40 foot metal building, and a conveyor belt leading in to the building. 

Crews put out the fire within 90 minutes. 

Firefighters remained on scene until just before noon conducting overhaul operations and extinguishing hot spots. 

No injuries were reported, and all BNSF staff were accounted for and safe. 

Fire investigators remain on scene. 

The cause is under investigation.
