Florida Couple Claims Share of $1.6B Powerball Jackpot

After more than a month of waiting, a Florida couple has finally stepped forward to claim their share of the $1.6 billion dollar Powerball Jackpot.

70-year-old Maureen Smith and 55-year-old David Kaltschmidt opted for the lump sum payment of about $327.8 million.

Kaltschmidt said at a news conference Wednesday that they didn’t inform family members until last week that they won.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Publix grocery store in Melbourne Beach.  The other two winning tickets for the January 13 drawing were bought in Munford, Tennessee and Chino Hills, California.

John and Lisa Robertson of Munford, Tennessee, cashed in their winning ticket last month, also opting for the lump sum.

The winners in California have not yet come forward to claim their prize.

The $1.6 billion prize was the world’s largest lottery jackpot.
