Authorities Investigate Drowning At Duluth Hotel

A death investigation is underway after a man was found unresponsive in a hotel pool in Duluth this weekend.

The call for help came in at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday at the Radisson hotel on the 500 block of West Superior Street.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says a 22-year-old man from Newport, Minnesota, was found unresponsive in the pool.

As of Sunday night, authorities had not released the victim’s name.

He was taken to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth Sunday and was later pronounced dead.

Authorities believe alcohol was a contributing factor.

The cause of death was under investigation Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Radisson released the following state Sunday:

“A hotel guest drowned early Sunday morning after gaining unauthorized access to the pool after it was closed for the evening.

He was discovered by his companions, who alerted hotel staff. The staff took action and first responders arrived minutes later.

We are now assisting the Sheriff’s Department with its investigation into this tragedy.

Our deepest condolences go out to the young man’s family and friends.”
