One Dead, Three Hospitalized after Overdosing on Heroin in Beltrami County

One person is dead and three others were hospitalized after overdosing on heroin in Beltrami County on Saturday.

Sheriff’s officials say the emergency calls were handled by deputies and by Bemidji police.

The three survivors were taken to area hospitals.  Sheriff’s Sgt. Jarrett Walton says there is no word on their conditions.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office is concerned that heroin being distributed locally is causing the overdoses.  They say they do not condone drug use, but is urging the public to use caution.

“We strongly urge all citizens who are aware of their loved ones or friends’ use of drugs to closely monitor them for breathing difficulties, incoherence and unconsciousness, all of which indicate an emergency need for medical treatment. To save their lives, these individuals need immediate transport to a hospital.”

The incidents remain under investigation.
