Superior Murder Suspect Rejects Plea Agreement; Judge Denies Continuance

A Douglas County Judge has denied a request to push back the trial for a co-defendant in a Superior murder case.

20-year-old Dallas Robinson is charged with party to the crime of felony murder for his role in the shooting death of 20-year-old Garth Velin in September of 2014.

Robinson put in a request for a new attorney, just a week before his trial is expected to start.

A new attorney would mean a continuance of at least 90 days for a new trial.  Robinson’s trial has already been rescheduled four times.

In denying a continuance, Glonek cited the timeliness of the request, the victim’s interests, the reason- or lack-there-of, for a new attorney, and the inconvenience to witnesses, the parties involved and the court.

Judge Glonek did not deny Robinson’s request for a new lawyer, but did not grant a motion for his current attorney to withdraw, which leaves questions on who will represent Robinson at trial.

In December, it was revealed that a plea agreement was in the works for Robinson. According to Douglas County District Attorney Dan Blank, Robinson agreed to testify against co-defendants Kyham Dunn and Teah Phillips.  In return for his testimony, Robinson’s charges would be reduced to Party to the Crime of Attempted Armed Robbery.

Blank says after going ahead with hiring a new attorney, that it appears Robinson has rejected the plea agreement.

Robinson is still scheduled for trial on March 8.
