Superior’s ‘Iceman’ Closes Shop For Season
Superior’s “Iceman” is packing up and headed home after what he calls a successful ice sculpture on Barker’s Island.
Roger Hanson acknowledged he did not break a world record, but he said Wednesday he’s determined to keep trying.
“El Nino beat me to it,” Hanson explained.
“I’m just going to keep trying to do my best, and to make the greatest possible ice sculpture that this world has ever seen.”
Hanson hopes to be back in Superior again next year for the third year in a row.
He says more than 23,000 people passed through Barker’s Island to see the ice sculpture over a two to three week period this season.
And for next year, Hanson told FOX 21 he is looking for an apprentice to learn and eventually take over his ice making because he says he’s getting too old.
