Central high school needs $18 million for repairs
Central High School was built in 1892 and is now in need of some repairs.
The building is used year round by the school district and parts of the building have become dangerous.
With concrete covering the original limestone and plywood covering up holes, many say it needs to be fixed and to do this would cost up to $18 million.
While most argue in favor of the buildings historical importance, they know it will raise taxes for people in Duluth.
“To have it here on the hillside of our community as something residents can appreciate and have for a long time as well as visitors I think investment is definitely something we all need to consider,” said Kerry Leider, Property Manager for Duluth Public Schools.
Work has been phased over ten years in a pay-as-you-go style.
The school board is expected to vote on the project Tuesday night.
