Fundraiser Held To Support Duluth Police Officers

Organizers Hope To Surpass Last Year's $5,000 Finish

The Fraternal Order Of Police and The Duluth Community came together  at Grandma’s Sports Garden Sunday to hold a fundraiser that benefits officer support programs and future department endeavors.

There were large helpings of Italian cuisine and charitable spirit being passed around.

The money being raised goes to support officers in our area and their families.

For officer Aaron Holler, Sunday’s partnership between police and the community of Duluth hit home.

“I wouldn’t be going anywhere else. I love Duluth. I get to work in the part of the city where I grew up and see people that I grew up.” Holler said.

Officer Holler has been with the Duluth Police Department for a little over a year and Holler’s family was among those celebrating law enforcement.

Officer Holler’s sister-in-law, Jennifer, knew from the get go that being police officer was his calling, but this causes concerns about his safety.

“It makes me worrisome for about my sister and their kids, it’s always a little bit worrisome,” Jennifer said.

“A lot of what people know about our job is what people learn from Hollywood, and that’s not how it is really is. I don’t think I could put a price of the value of the officer’s seeing the support for them,”said Chris Shovelin, Lodge 9 president.

“The officers do a lot of great things and get people to know the officers and put a face on it. I want people to understand what the officers go through and we are there no matter what,” Shovelin said.
