Last Fish Fry of the Season

St. Benedict's Hosts their last fish fry for the season of Lent.

The season of Lent is wrapping up and many of those Friday night fish fries have come to their last supper.

Members of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and the community have come together the last three weeks for faith, fish, and a whole lot of fellowship.

It takes just a little more than five loaves and two fish to feed this flock. It takes more than one thousand pieces of fish.

St. Benedicts in Duluth and their Knights of Columbus have come together to serve their famous Friday night fish fry.

“I just love the idea of all the people coming together in a proper setting with high spirits, knowing they’re doing the Lord’s work and working for a good cause,” said John Vogel who makes the coleslaw.

They help good causes like the church and the community.

“I think that’s what Lent is about is you doing things together for one thing,” said Chuck Stoetzel, floor manager of the fish fry.

Even though the season can be a little somber, the group makes sure to have some fun.

“Hopefully not too many people are standing around,” said Stoetzel.

Diners chose from cajun, fried, or regular with sides that were good enough for two trips.

“Hearing the positive remarks from the guests that don’t go to the church is very rewarding,” said server Joe LeVoir.

St. Benedict’s served around two-hundred and fifty with about thirty-five volunteers.

While it’s the last fish fry this year, many can’t wait for next year.

“The food’s great the fellowship is even better,” said Vogel.
