Sen. Franken Staff Member Says Rising Drug Prices “Not Acceptable”

Some People Forced to Limit Prescription Use for Expensive Meds

As the prices on some prescription drugs soar, people who depend on them are making tough choices just to stay alive.

Senator Al Franken, who is a member of the Senate Health Committee in Washington, has made drug prices a focus of a tour he’s on with his staff across the state of Minnesota.

During the tour, Franken and his staff have been listening to stories from people who are affected by rising prices for medicines.

That tour made a stop in Duluth Tuesday morning.

Field representative Amanda Mills says some of the stories are heartbreaking.

She says many seniors who depend on prescriptions are seeing the prices of their meds increase past the limits of their fixed incomes.

“Some seniors have decided to go without medication,” Mills said. “It’s actually caused them to go into the hospital or really made their quality of life worse. And that’s just not acceptable.”
