UWS Muslim Students Break Down Stereotypes

A group of Muslim students at UWS is taking a stand against Islamophobia.

Abdisa Dawano, a UWS student and president of the World Students Associations, says that all too often minorities are labeled and put into a box of hate.

So, he and a group of other Muslim students held a panel discussion on campus to talk about the biggest misconceptions they’ve encountered in the U.S.

“We are becoming such a global nation … but we are not connecting at an individual level with people who come here from abroad. So we need to take this opportunity to educate ourselves and be better citizens in the world,” Dawano said.

Dawano expressed the importance of dialogue and pushing through uncomfortable feeling when trying to understand different cultures in our world.
