Trump Takes Back Abortion Comments
Donald Trump is taking back hi statement earlier Wednesday that women should be punished for seeking abortions if they are ever banned.
Trump said in a later statement that abortion providers, not women, should be the ones punished if Roe v. Wade were ever overturned.
“If congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, the not the woman,” said Trump.
He added that the woman is a victim in this case, as is the life in her womb.
Trump said during a town hall taping earlier Wednesday that women who get abortions should receive “some sort of punishment” if abortion is banned.
Trump says his position has not changed- he is pro-life with exceptions.
