Vietnam Veterans Day

Celebration gives recognition to veterans after they didn't receive it over fifty years ago.

The Department of Veterans Affairs recognizes March 29th as Vietnam Veteran’s Day to honor the sacrifice made by so many of the brave.

Hundreds of people filled the Depot in Duluth that organizers joked they should’ve moved it to Amsoil Arena.

Regardless, many still remembered their mission to never forget these veterans.

The event honored those from the Vietnam era between 1961-1975.

The meaning behind the celebration was to give these veterans the recognition they deserve and didn’t get fifty years ago.

“The time these guys got out of Vietnam, they were disgraced. They were spit on. That never should have happened. It’s about time they were recognized along with us who are veterans that are important to this country,” said U.S. Navy veteran Larry Kubiak.

The event allowed many veterans to share their stories with one another and greet friends they haven’t seen in awhile.

“When you see somebody that’s been in Vietnam, there’s an instant click back and forth,” said Vietnam veteran Greg Kunst.

Many of the veterans said the entire celebration and the amount of people there was a little overwhelming, but they appreciated the recognition for their service.

Some veterans said they feel like war didn’t happen fifty years ago, but remember it like it was yesterday.
