GO- Gooseberry Falls State Park

State Parks Celebrate 125 Years

This year marks the 125th anniversary of Minnesota State Parks.

The anniversary is based on when the first state park was established.

Some people say Gooseberry Falls is the gateway to the Northshore

“The main feature that brings the people here are the waterfalls,” said Nick Hoffmann, a Park Ranger.

The park is also known for the Lake Superior shoreline, and North woods wild life.

Last year, around half a million people visited the park, making Gooseberry falls the 2nd most visited state park in Minnesota.

In the wintertime the falls freeze over attracting ice climbers, but now that spring is here, people can be seen enjoying the easy hike to get a look at the spectacular waterfalls.

The waterfalls aren’t the only things the park has to offer.

With plenty of activities during all 4 seasons, the state park has visitors year round.

The park has recorded over 225 species of birds that nest or visit there, making it a great location for bird watching in the spring and fall.
