Veterans Rally Behind Former Veterans Service Officer

Hugh Quinn Resigned After Office Reorganization Announcement

After the county’s Veterans Service Office had been slated to be restructured, Veteran Service Officer Hugh Quinn put in his resignation, March 22.

Quinn said he couldn’t serve veterans and fight for his department. This news came as a shock to the community Quinn worked with.

“Big surprise, big surprise. We had support the next day…. We were down here in his office, meeting with our commissioner, the auditor treasurer was in, so we had about 20 people maybe to find out why, what happened,” said Tom Mors, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1764 in Bigfork.

After support poured in for Quinn, the board began the conversation of bringing him back.

Tuesday, during a county board work session, commissioners voted unanimously to reinstate Quinn.

The support Quinn received is enough to tell the Iraq war veteran is making a difference in the community.

“The question came up in the course of this, or I raised the question whats the value of an honorable discharge, and I think today you saw what the value of that is among us. It’s a pretty strong brotherhood and sisterhood with veterans. Again, I have the best job in the county,” said Quinn.

Quinn has worked in the position since 2012.
