TSA Taking Steps to Shorten Wait Times at MSP Airport

The Transportation Security Administration is taking steps to shorten wait times at the Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport.

The TSA wrote a letter to U.S. Senator Al Franken announcing several measures being taken to address the problem including adjusting staffing levels, authorizing additional overtime, and adding more caning screening teams.

Senator Franken said the actions have cut down traveler wait times from as high as 70 minutes down to around half an hour.

Franken vowed to stay on top of things as the summer travel season begins.

Security line wait times jumped dramatically in the first few months of 2016 as a result of many factors such as remodeled security checkpoints, a reduction in the number of agents, insufficient training, and more people flying.

“Minnesota businesses and families rely on air travel to go about their daily lives,” said Sen. Franken. “Ensuring that the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is safe and secure must always be our top priority. At the same time, we have to make that sure people can get through security in a timely manner. I am glad TSA has responded and taken serious steps to address this problem. I will continue to monitor the situation so Minnesotans can get to where they need to be on time.”
