Plea Agreement in the Works for Superior Murder Suspect

A possible plea agreement is in the works for a teen charged in connection to the murder of a Superior man in September of 2014.

18-year-old Teah Phillips is charged with party to the crime of felony murder for her role in the shooting death of Garth Velin.

As part of a plea agreement, her charge would be reduced and she would serve less time in prison.

Douglas County District Attorney Dan Blank says the family of Garth Velin is against any lesser charges.  That decision ultimately is up to the state.

In October of last year, Phillips agreed to testify in the trial of co-defendants Dallas Robinson and Kyham Dunn.

A jury found Dunn not guilty of party to the crime of felony murder in January. Robinson is scheduled to go to trial in June.

20-year-old Garth Velin was shot in the chest by 19-year-old Chance Andrews during what police call a failed robbery attempt.

Andrews is serving 25 years behind bars.

Co-defendant Kane Robinson was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in Velin’s death.
