2 Finalists Named in Search for Duluth Fire Chief
Two veteran members of the Duluth Fire Department are the two finalists in the search for a new fire chief.
One of the finalists is James Dawson, serves at the Fire Captain for the Duluth Fire Department. He is a 26 year veteran of the Department. He also has 28 years of Leadership experience with the Air National Guard and has been a teacher in the Duluth School District.
The other finalist, Dennis Edwards, serves as Assistant Fire Chief for the Duluth Fire Department. He has climbed the ranks from Firefighter, to FEO to Fire Captain, to Assistant Fire Chief. He has 25 years of Fire Service under his belt. He has also been a Fire Instructor for 24 years.
The new Fire Chief would manage a staff of over 140 fire professionals and building inspectors, and operate a budget of $14 million. The Chief would oversee key aspects of the health and safety of the Duluth community, including acting as the city’s Emergency Manager and working in the schools and neighborhoods to address fire safety and prevention.
The finalists will have one-on-one interviews with Mayor Larson, who says she will make a final decision in the coming week. That decision will then be forwarded to the City Council for approval in early May.
