The Milk House celebrates its first birthday
The Milk House in Gary new Duluth is celebrating its first birthday.
The independent gas station was open for several years, but closed for about 9 months in 2014.
At the end of that year, the Milk House was purchased by a former employee, Derek Medved, who was 19 years old at the time.
The Milk House reopened April 24th of 2015, which was Medved’s 20th birthday.
Medved said “It’s just great to be a part of Gary and a part of the surrounding areas and know they have their full interest in me, and they support me 110%.”
Since it’s reopening, business at the locally owned Milk House is still thriving, and the gas station has served more than 220,000 customers in the last year.
Medved said “It’s making it more harder for young entrepreneurs like me to get started, because of the industry, with the big competition coming in, so that’s why i want to push locally owned, locally owned, because it gives guys like me a chance, to make it work and make it go.”
The Milk House will be celebrating with cake Monday, and there will be sales and promotions on many of the products throughout the store
