UMD, Other Parts of the Northland Sitting in the Dark

Parts of the Northland, including the University of Minnesota-Duluth campus, are without power. 

According to Minnesota Power, around 550 customers have been left in the dark. 

Around 10 a.m. Monday morning, the University of Minnesota-Duluth reported on Twitter “Campus is experiencing a power outage. We working with the power company to identify and resolve the issue.”   Around 11:30, the school said “We are in contact with MN Power, but we do not have an ETA on power. Please make best effort to continue class and work while being safe.” 

According to Minnesota Power’s website, around 357 customers are affected in the UMD and Kenwood area. 

As of 11:50 a.m., around 191 customers are impacted in the vicinity of Highway 53 to the Duluth International Airport.  

Minnesota Power’s website estimates power to be resorted around 1 p.m. 

Meanwhile, Lake Country Power is reporting five different outages affecting roughly 366 customers.
