Five Rescued after Boat Sinks in Western Minnesota

Five people were rescued after their boat sank on Lake Carlos in western Minnesota early Monday morning.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 12:17 a.m. from a boater saying their boat sank near the mouth of the Long Prairie River.

The caller told police there were five people on board and they were all accounted for, however, they were in the water.  The men stood on a homemade platform on the bow of the boat, but were still in about three feet of water .

Authorities contacted a man who lives on the lake, and they went out with his boat to rescue the boaters.

The men were checked out by first responders. They were wet and cold, but otherwise unharmed.

Police say there were no personal flotation devices in the boat.

The incident remains under investigation.
